Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California, Harris graduated from Howard University and the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in the year 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Sánchez during the 2016 Senate elections, becoming the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as a senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and cannabis legalization as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. National attention was gained for her sharp examination of Trump administration officials at Senate sessions. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual abuse.
